Oscars and Social media

Well, let me accept that Social media was the only thing that reminded me this was actually on. When it was over I logged in to facebook & twitter and then realized I had missed the whole thing! I remember when the Oscars were the television event of the season. If you had missed them then you have to wait a while to see the clips on youtube next day or even after that.

However oscar telecast is no longer adhered to broadcast through TV only. Though It was telecasted through TV but followed/discussed by many online. James Franco (127 hours fame), host, was also tweeting and posting clips of the show during the show. Apart from him there were many thousands people who were tweeting about it and it was the trending topic on twitter. There were million tweets sent during those hours of ceremony.

This phenomena was not restricted to twitter only. Over the facebook also nearly 2 million people mentioned the word ‘oscars’ in their status messages during those hours. The King’s Speech, which won the best movie award, was oscarsmentioned most around 152,324 times. James Franco with 138,437 mentions.The Social Network with 96,513 mentions and Natalie Portman with 80,704 mentions.
