Asmaa MahfouzThis is one of the live, latest and largest examples in front of us demonstrating the power and impact of social media. A Facebook status message, from a 26 years old woman Asmaa Mahfouz worried about her country, “People, I am going to Tahrir Square”. The message soon spread like a wild fire in the whole of Egypt. This fueled their emotions and brought them together on the same platform at the same time. This is the power of social media.

The revolution of Egypt now called the jasmine revolution is worth a case-study on how a social media networking tools like Twitter, Facebook and Blogs can act as a catalyst to call up people to organize and unite them against any wrongful conduct. Eventhough TV channels were banned and media rights curbed, systematic flow of information was there. This was perhaps the only bloodless peoples revolution staged entirely on the web forcing the powerful president to step down.

social media networkingThe power and impact of social media can not be neglected. We know and are part of many groups on Facebook and other social media network which are formed for some cause or against some corruption/ wrongdoing in the society. These groups are joined by thousands of people who not only exchange their thoughts but also connect with each other
to bring the desired result. There is a group against corruption on Facebook with 11000+ members which got about 1000+ people marching against corruption in Delhi, few sundays ago.

One more example can be taken is from twitter. Trending topics categorized worldwide/country/city wise and use of hash tag. It can be observed that thousands of people across the world discuss/exchange their views at a specific time. Using of hashtag help brings people on the same page of discussion. The speed of spreading word is really exponential in the social media. We are innovating. clap clap
